What We Look For

StoryTree welcomes art and artists of all mediums, including:

  • Poetry

  • Short Stories

  • Creative Nonfiction

  • Personal Essays

  • Artist Interviews

  • Drawings

  • Paintings

  • Photography

We are particularly interested in art with a unique perspective and work from marginalised artists. StoryTree is intended for an adult audience, as such we are not interested in work aimed towards children.

StoryTree is not interested in work that endorses bigoted views. StoryTree is a safe space for people of all races, nationalities, immigration-status, genders, sexualities, and abilities.

The best way to see if your work would fit StoryTree is to read our previous issues.

If you are unsure if your work is suitable for StoryTree, please email an inquiry to info@storytreepress.co.uk

Guidelines

Please ensure all submissions adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Poetry - Up to 5 pages per poem.

  • Prose - 500-5000 words.

  • Artwork - Must be at least 300dpi.

  • Physical Artwork - If you are submitting physical artwork, please provide a clear, high quality photograph or scan of the work. Photographs should be taken straight-on in a well-lit space with no shadows obscuring the work and should not include the background (table, easel, wall, etc.)

  • Cover Art - The cover art for each issue is selected from the art and photography submissions.

  • Formatted Poetry - Poems with experimental formats are allowed. However, if the format does not fit StoryTree's editorial guidelines, a rewrite with a new format will be offered to the poet. If the poet declines the new format, the poem will unfortunately not be able to be included in the issue.

  • Language - Must be primarily written in English but may feature other languages. Please note: our editor will not be able to catch typos, grammar mistakes, and spelling errors in other languages so take extra care when proofreading work that includes other languages.

  • Copyright - All work must belong to the submitting artist(s).

  • Previous Publication - Previously published work is permitted provided you own the publishing rights. Please clearly indicate in your submission if your work has been previously published and state where and when it was published. Work submitted for StoryTree In Conversation is ineligible.

  • No AI-generated work.

  • Payment - Unfortunately, StoryTree is not in a position to pay contributors. However, all artists will receive a contributor coupon code to access their issue for free.

  • Multiple Categories - You can submit to as many categories as you like! Please include all writing submissions together in the one form and all art submissions together in the one form. If you are submitting writing and art, you will need to submit a form for each.

  • Editing - StoryTree reserves the right to lightly edit pieces, correcting spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and typos. Any significant editing changes will be worked on collaboratively with the artist(s).

  • Sharing - By submitting to StoryTree, you are consenting that successful work may be shared on the StoryTree social medias, website, and promotional material. All work will be credited to the artist(s).

  • Rights and Acknowledgements - Artists retain the copyright to their work. If your work is later published in a future publication (magazine, book, exhibition), we ask that you acknowledge its first appearance in StoryTree.

  • Past Contributors - Past contributors are more than welcome to submit to further StoryTree publications, however please note that past publication with us does not guarantee acceptance. Priority will be given to contributors who engage with the magazine. If you have been previously published with us and did not claim your free copy of the magazine, you will be unlikely to be accepted again.

Submit

Submissions should be sent via the Google Forms below. There are two forms for submissions: writing and art.
